Capital Punishment

The death penalty is a topic very debated, because many people agree with this and other many people disagree. People who disagree with the capital punishment have many arguments. However, I totally agree with the death penalty, and I will explain my reasons to agree with the capital punishment, and show what people that agree is not right.

First of all, people who disagree with the law argue that the life is the most precious gift we were given, so we have to respect it.  What I say is, Why do we have to respect the life of a person who doesn’t respect others lives?. I believe that if a person kills my sons, and my wife, because he enjoys doing this or because he is an intolerant person, I should kill him. Why should I respect the life of a person who didn’t respect my family’s life?. For example, in Colombia there is a man who killed more than160 kids. His name is Luis Garavito. He used to take the kids to a forest, then he raped them many times, and finally, when he was tired, he killed them. So I ask again, why we have to respect the life of such a repugnant person that doesn’t respect anybody’s life?.

Usually, people that disagree with the death penalty, support their beliefs in religious bases. What I believe is that we shouldn’t have in account what religion say, because it has been proved that religious leaders just want money and they don’t care about morality and honor. Do you think I am wrong? Read the next. In my country the predominant religion is the Catholicism, in many cases the justice has proved that the most of priests are gay, and many of them rape children of public schools. There is a huge case in Colombia in which people watched a video about a priest that was the vice-president of a public school, practicing oral sex to children. The video was showed to the president of the school and he didn’t do anything, what is worst, he and the other priests already knew about this case and despite the clear evidence they just transferred the rapper priest to another school. What they said about this case was, we should forgive him because he is human.  There are many complains about the same priest but he is protected by the church.  The problem is that the kids that are raped by them are too poor and they don’t have enough money to pay a lawyer who puts this kind of repugnant person in a jail. The bishops in Colombia know about this case, and they have watched the video as many others, yet all the priests involved in sexual scandals are just transferred to other regions and covered by the church. So what I say again, why should we have in account the opinion of these kinds of persons if all of them protect criminals?. And what about other groups, religions, sects, or cultures that believe that kill in name of god is correct?.  Is the Catholicism more powerful than those groups?.  That is why I think that this argument, based on a religion that along the world has protected criminals and has killed more people than the same NAZIs, doesn’t have any weigh.

Finally, In case that you disagree about killing an assassin like Garavito, Would you have it in your house, would you pay for the water he spends and the food that is eaten by him?. I don’t think so. So why we have to pay taxes for support the food that is eaten by this kind of person. That money that is used to feed a murderer like Garavito could be used to give food and education to a person who really deserves it. So if you disagree with the capital punishment, you pay for his food, you pay for his water. I don’t want to pay in order to keep a person like this alive.
